Our story

Oceanogami: "Build your Ocean responsibility"

Oceanogami was founded in 2018 based on the idea of making marine responsibility more accessible and more effective. Since then, we have partnered with numerous organizations and individuals to create capacity for marine responsibility and more efficient ocean management.

The idea to create an organization dedicated to connecting people to the ocean came to Dr. Patricia Martí Puig upon recognizing the lack of a bridge connecting marine research with corporate and public action. In 2018, Patricia created Oceanogami into a reality and it has been making marine sustainability more accessible and more effective ever since.

Today, Oceanogami is an international consultancy and advocacy organization specializing in ocean sustainability. We act as a liaison between companies, governmental and non-governmental organizations, research centres, citizens, and other institutions to promote a positive and sustainable relationship with the marine environment. We provide consultancy services, build capacity, and create awareness for marine conservation.

Our mission is to unite people and organizations to promote sustainable and accessible seas

Mission & Vision

“Oceano” is the Spanish term for the ocean and “Gami” (Japanese: 神, [kaꜜmi])
are the spirits, elements of the landscape, and forces of nature. For us, this means working together to connect people to the ocean.

At Oceanogami, we believe in the concept of a “Blue Society”, a vision for a society in which people benefit from the ocean while preserving its environmental integrity. Thus, we take a multidisciplinary view, in which cultural, social, and economic needs are integrated with environmental objectives in order to create truly sustainable solutions. We also believe in the importance of education, outreach, and skill development amongst the participating actors at any level in marine environmental management. Our core values consist of sustainability, education, community, and collaboration.

Our vision is a society that benefits from the ocean whilst preserving its environmental integrity

Our contribution to Sustainable Development Goals of the United Nations Agenda 2030

Healthy seas, healthy people

The well-being of citizens is part of Oceanogami’s core values. We promote the health of our ocean and the people that depend on it. All of our actions take into consideration World Health Organization recommendations.

Supporting Educational Programs

Ensuring equitable quality education and promoting lifelong learning opportunities are essential for building a sustainable future. Oceanogami aids to develop educational and capacity-building programs offering a set of skills necessary for future ocean leaders through citizen science events and workshops.

Promoting a Gender-Equal Community

Gender equality is a fundamental right and it is essential for sustainable development. We promote gender equality by empowering women leadership and using gender-neutral language for our communication.

Promoting Sustainable Communities

We believe that working together with communities is necessary to have a healthy and sustainable ocean. Oceanogami promotes the co-responsibility of citizens, tourists, and companies for the marine environment.

Responsible consumption and production

Responsible consumption and production is the key to a cleaner and healthier planet. Oceanogami organizes awareness campaigns and tailored environmental sustainability programs to promote responsible consumption and a circular economy

Climate Action

Every single action taken towards preserving our environment is essential for protecting our climate. Oceanogami works to evaluate the impact of human action towards climate and to promote low carbon events.

Protecting the Marine Environment

Protecting the marine environment is at the core of the work that Oceaanogami does. All of our principles find their roots in the love of the ocean. We believe that protecting the marine environment should be everyone’s duty. This is the vision we are promoting throughout all of our programs and services.

Life On Land

Land and the oceans are connected, and we cannot protect one without the other. Our work on marine environmental issues extends to the protection of coastline species and the terrestrial environment, as land and ocean are connected.

Stronger Together

We believe that partnerships with different sectors are the key to finding effective solutions. Oceanogami has partnered with several sectors (governments, NGOs, companies…) to move towards the same ideal of sustainable development.
